Professional
Elena Baralis is full professor in the Faculty of Management Engineering of the Politecnico di Torino.
She gives courses on
- database systems fundamentals
- database systems technology
- data warehousing and data mining
Research
Her current research interests are in the field of databases. More specifically
- Data base systems and data mining: Indexing techniques for the integration of data mining algorithms in database systems, analysis techniques for data streams (e.g., traffic flows), XML documents summarization and indexing, methodologies and algorithms for association rule extraction, structured and unstructured (e.g., textual, XML) data classification.
- Sensor databases: Power-aware query techniques for sensor networks, real-time mobile analysis of clinical/physiological data.
- Bioinformatics: biological data analysis (microarray data analysis, feature selection techniques, microarray data integration), data management issues (biological database quality validation, microarray data integration).

Education
Elena Baralis is full professor at the Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica of the Politecnico di Torino since January 2005. She holds a laurea degree in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, both from Politecnico di Torino.
