Her research activities have been mainly devoted to fostering and sharing research and innovation on data science and machine learning. Tania has designed and developed novel, scalable and general-purpose algorithms to extract new forms of knowledge patterns in different application domains, from Industry 4.0 to energy-related applications. Tania is very active in the research community since she has been a proceeding chair for ACM CIKM 2018, a co-chair of the workshop track for ADBIS 2018 and has organized a variety of international workshops in the last few years [2015-2020] in conjunction with different international conferences. Tania is the co-editor of a Springer book titled “Transparent Data Mining for Big and Small Data” with Dr. Daniele Quercia and Prof. Frank Pasquale. Tania has published more than 120 scientific publications including 35 journal articles published in IEEE journals (IEEE TKDE, IEEE TITB, IEEE TSNM, IEEE Access), ACM journals (ACM TIST), Springer journals (Knowledge and Information Systems), Elsevier journals (Information sciences, Expert System With Applications, Big Data Research, Computer networks, Journal of Systems and Software), MDPI (Energies, Electronics, Applied Sciences), Wiley & Sons (International Journal of Intelligent Systems). Tania has served as a referee for many international journals. Tania has been involved in many European and Italian research projects addressing different research issues related to machine learning and data analytics. Tania has been the professor of courses in Introduction to Databases and Business Intelligence for Big Data courses at the Politecnico di Torino since 2011. She got a master degree with honours in Computer Engineering (in 2003) and the PhD degree (in 2007) from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and the master degree with honours in Computer Science (in 2003) from the Universidad De Las Américas Puebla, Mexico.

CAREER BREAKS

2011/04/15 — 2011/09/14 (Daughter: Francesca) Maternity Leave – 5 Months

2013/05/29 – 2013/11/02 (Daughter: Vittoria) Maternity Leave – 5 Months

2017/08/24 – 2018/01/24 (Son: Lorenzo) Maternity Leave – 5 Months

Research Interests

RESEARCH INTERESTS

The research activity of Tania Cerquitelli has been mainly devoted to fostering and sharing research and innovation on data science, an interdisciplinary field about scientific processes, methodologies, and systems to extract useful knowledge or insights from data in various forms. Tania Cerquitelli has actively contributed to the design and development of cutting-edge and scalable data science methodologies and transparent algorithms (explainable Artificial Intelligence) for science and society to translate data into knowledge and, ultimately, actions. Specifically, Tania proposed novel, scalable and general-purpose algorithms to extract new form of knowledge patterns, as well as designs tailored data analytics solutions for data science use-cases in different application domains, from industry 4.0 to health care, and computer networks and telecommunication applications. Both health care and Industry 4.0 applications have very high societal impact, while other applications produce large amounts of heterogeneous data yielding very challenging problems from a data science perspective. Specifically, her research interests include:

EXplanable Artificial Intelligence

automated data science pipeline

tailoring th KDD process to interesting and unconventional use cases

self-learning methodologies,

self-tuning algorithms,

the design of innovative algorithms to perform large-scale data mining,

novel and efficient data mining techniques for IoT,

algorithms to extract high level abstraction of the mined knowledge (e.g., generalized association rules).

Research Projects

MAIN TOPICS

I have been involved in many research projects addressing different topics:

Industry 4.0

energy efficiency,

network traffic analysis,

Internet platform

in the data mining research area.

FUNDED PROJECTS

[01/01/2018-31/12/2020].
