She received her PhD in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2000 and the MSc degree (110\/110 with honors) in Computer Engineering in 1996 from the same University. At Politecnico di Torino, she has worked at the Department of Control and Computer Engineering (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dauin.polito.it\/\">DAUIN<\/a>) from 1997 to 2017, and she works at Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dist.polito.it\/en\/\">DIST<\/a>) from 2018.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Research<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Chiusano works in the area of database systems, data mining and machine learning. Her research interests focus on the design of innovative solutions for large-scale data management and mining with interest on health care, smart cities and healthy cities application domains.\u00a0\u00a0Silvia research interests include the design of innovative approaches to perform large-scale analytics, and novel and efficient data mining techniques to mine heterogeneous data collections. More specifically<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Novel and efficient data mining algorithms.<\/em>\u00a0Scalable algorithms for association rule extraction and cluster analysis; Disk-based data mining algorithms;\u00a0New associative classifiers using compact rule set representations.<\/li>\n<li><em>Medical data analytics<\/em>. Analysis of electronic medical records storing the medical history of patients; Novel approaches to efficiently analyze physiological patient data to both characterize and predict patient conditions<\/li>\n<li><em>Mining Urban Data<\/em>.\u00a0 Novel solutions to mine huge collections of heterogeneous data describing the urban domain, focusing on data integration strategies, alternative data representations (i.e., NOSQL databases as MongoBD), devising ad hoc data analytics solutions also deployed with distributed processing technologies (e.g., MapReduce, Spark). She organized three editions of a workshop on data analytics (DARLI-AP) co-located with <a href=\"http:\/\/cse.stfx.ca\/~SmartData2017\/\">the IEEE International Conference on Smart Data<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/dbdmg.polito.it\/darli-ap2017\/\">DARLI-AP@SmartData 2017<\/a>) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/edbticdt2018.at\/\">EDBT\/ICDT Joint Conference<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/dbdmg.polito.it\/darli-ap2018\/\">DARLI-AP@EDBT\/ICDT 2018<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dbdmg.polito.it\/darli-ap2019\/\">DARLI-AP@EDBT\/ICDT 2019<\/a>).
