The DS4EIW 2021 program includes a keynote speech titled "Social Mining and Big Data Analytics'' given by Fosca Giannotti.

Abstract. SoBigData is a distributed and multi-disciplinary RI to use social mining, big data and artificial intelligence to understand our globally interconnected society. SoBigData R.I. borns from two H2020 projects, the first 2015-2019 (SoBigData project) and the second as a progressive community, 2020-2023 (SoBigData++ project).
Its uniqueness lies in its ability to make the effort of data science and artificial intelligence scientific communities on a unique synergic work. The RI’s service platform empowers researchers for the design and execution of large-scale social mining experiments. Pushing the FAIR (findable, accessible, Interoperable, responsible) and FACT (Fair, Accountable, Confidential and Transparent) principles, the RI will render social mining experiments more efficiently designed and repeatable by leveraging concrete tools that operationalise ethics, incorporating values and norms for privacy, fairness, transparency and pluralism.
The scientific fields include core research areas of big data analytics and artificial intelligence to realise large-scale repeatable social mining experiments applied to computational social science, digital humanities, city planning, wellbeing, migration, sport and health within the legal and ethical framework for responsible data science.

Fosca Giannotti is the director of computer science research at the Information Science and Technology Institute “A. Faedo” of CNR, Pisa, Italy. Fosca leads the Pisa KDD Lab - Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Laboratory http://kdd.isti.cnr.it, founded in 1994, one of the earliest research lab on data mining. Her research interests are on social data mining, social network analysis, privacy-preserving data mining, more recently on human-centred AI and trustworthy AI.. She coordinates SoBigData, a RI on Big Data Analytics and Social Mining http://www.sobigdata.eu, an ecosystem of 32 European research centres on Data Science. She is the PI of ERC AG entitled XAI – Science and technology to explain AI decision-making. In March 2019, she was featured as one of the 19 Inspiring women in AI, Big Data, Data Science, Machine Learning by KDnuggets.com, the  US leading site on AI, Data Mining and Machine Learning.
