3rd International Workshop on
Big Data Applications and Principles

3rd International Workshop on Big Data Applications and Principles
(BigDap 2016)
August 28th 2016, Prague, Czech Republic

in conjunction with the 20th East-European Conference on Advances in
Databases and Information Systems (ADBIS 2016)
August 28-31, 2016, Prague, Czech Republic

Session overview

BIGDAP 2016 is a workshop aimed at promoting and sharing research and innovation on Big Data. The workshop will allow researchers and practitioners to share their experiences on designing and developing big data applications, to discuss the big data open issues and to share new ideas and techniques for big data management and analysis.

Researchers are encouraged to submit their papers describing systems, platforms, algorithms and applications addressing all facets of a Big Data application. Industrial implementations of Big Data applications, design and deployment experience reports on various issues raising in Big Data Projects are particularly welcome. We call for research and experience papers as well as demonstration proposals covering any aspect of Big Data, with specific interests on Big Data analytics.

BIGDAP 2016 will be sponsored by the European Union FP7 under the Grant Agreement n. 619633 (ONTIC project - Online Network TraffIc Characterization, http://ict-ontic.eu) that is funded by European Commission. Therefore, the application of scalable Big Data analytics to network traffic characterization will be a key topic in the workshop. However, all application domains (e.g., smart cities, e-commerce, social networks) that need to deal with a large volume of data are of interest.

Topics of interest

Topics of interest for this workshop include but are not limited to the following:

  • Big Data applications
  • Case studies on Big Data management and analytics
  • Experiences with Big Data project development and deployment
  • Big Data models, algorithms, and architectures
  • Cloud computing techniques for Big Data
  • Big Data management
  • Programming models and environments to support Big Data
  • Parallel, distributed computing and virtualization for Big Data
  • Big Data frameworks and architectures
  • Big Data integrity and privacy

Submission instructions

Submissions should present original results and substantial new work not currently under review or published elsewhere. This workshop accepts:

  • Research papers (up to 10 pages) including novel approaches to deal with big data issues.
  • Application papers (up to 5 pages) describing applications on big data issues.
  • Industrial papers (up to 4 pages) describing experiences in the industry sectors.
  • Demo proposals (up to 2 pages) describing the demo flow.

Papers must comply with the Springer formatting guidelines (instructions for authors are available at  http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-12-73062-0). Papers should be submitted in PDF format using the online submission system https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bigdap2016.

Workshop papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in the  Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series.

The authors of the best workshop papers will be invited to prepare extended versions of their papers after the workshop. Following an additional round of reviews, the extended papers will appear in a special issue of Information System frontiers, Springer (Impact Factor = 0.761).
